Thought for the Week: Should We Trade Fairly?
The High Wycombe council declined to support the status of Fairtrade to the town. They argue that in the current economic climate people should be free to choose their purchases freely. Within the Council, in light of budget cuts and possible closure of the outdoor pools and redundancies it would be inappropriate to incur additional cost with Fairtrade products.
The Liberal Democrats said they would pick up the shortfall but that it would cost the council less to buy Fairtrade tea and coffee. There would be no charge to the council tax payer in the district.
The care of one another across nations embodies the teachings of Jesus. We should give with all our hearts, and give gladly.
