What We Do: Our Statement of Faith
Eltham Park Methodist Church values its Methodist tradition and so seeks to be a loyal part of the Methodist Church
Practising our Christianity
We at Eltham Park, from the minister, the development worker right the way through the congregation, seek to work together as a community to explore our understanding of life in the Christian tradition and to put this into practice in our local area as well as within family life and working life.
Understanding God?
We worship together to help focus on our understanding of God and to keep this understanding foremost in our minds.
Further working on this understanding of God occurs in discussions and reflection in short formal studies and also in informal conversations. Perhaps, how we put our faith into practice is the most critical way we develop our understanding of God.
All of this requires an engagement with a wide and developing knowledge of the world in general and a deepening of our understanding of our own particular tradition.
Fun and laughter
We believe in building community: a place where people can have fun and laughter together though mutual support and care as opposed to exploitation. So we seek to share our resources with others for the common good at the same time expecting something from those with whom we share. We do all this from our understanding of God.
If you explore our website you will find a whole list of activities happening from in this particular Methodist Church. Some of these activities are directly run by the church, others are encouraged and supported by the church whilst yet others are run by others but we are happy to have them function from our site since we understand them to be healthy and wholesome.
Living our out Christian lives
We hope we are open to people; seeking to encourage others by listening and caring and, also, sharing the good experiences we have through our Christian faith. In this we look to develop our own faith and understanding through their story. After all we are not perfect in our thinking and indeed in our actions.
We are simply a people seeking to understand and practise truth and life: we believe we are helped in this by the stories of God expressed through the stories of Jesus and by being in communion with others.
